CLASSES, CHILD CARE CENTER CLASSES

THEATRE EXPERIENCE & WORKSHOPS

The Homeward Bound Theatre Company is committed to bringing 
  today's youth a fun and educational performing arts
experience that encourages creative skill development, family values 
and positive relationships.

Homeward Bound Theatre Company (HBTC) is in over 75 communities in Minnesota
and Wisconsin working with Community  Education  Directors in offering uniquely
designed performing arts classes and workshops for children, preschool through high
school and adults. There are over 65 classes to choose from for pre-school through
12th grade and over 40 classes for adults. Classes are offered during and after school, 
evenings and Saturdays.
Following are samplings of classes for each age group: (Most classes can be developed
into workshops or for other age groups)

K - 3rd grade - BROADWAY KIDS - Young actors will learn beginning techniques 
in acting while doing creative activities.  Our shooting stars will dramatize favorite
stories, learn staging techniques and much more.  They will expand their imagination
and build self-confidence while exploring the world of creative dramatics.

3rd - 6th grade - STORYBOOK PLAYERS - Using classical literature, children learn
basic theatre skills, work in spatial awareness, voice control, listening skills and 
imagination development. (Any individual story can be added, Peter Pan, Beauty and 
the Beast, Rumplestilskin, Stone Soup or Billy Goats Gruff, etc.)

7th - 12th grade - PERFORMING ON BROADWAY - JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT!!  
Learn music, drama and dance of the broadway musical.  Devour a smorgasbord of 
broadway songs for the pure pleasure of it, while using professional vocal techniques.
Imagine your name in lights on the marquee, just for the fun of it!!

9th - 12th grade - SCENE STUDY - Search out the secrets of contemporary and 
classic scenes of comedy and drama, of the very essence of acting.  Whether your 
objective is personal growth or media stardom, this class is challenging, creative and Fun!

Adults - AUDITIONING FOR TELEVISION & RADIO - Learn how to audition with 
the power and sparkle necessary to grab attention and impress casting directors - for 
movies, TV & Radio commercials or multimedia.  Learn and practice the most effective 
ways to prepare for auditions, to quickly analyze scripts and story boards, to select 
the approach that presents you at your best.

 

CHILD CARE CENTER CLASSES

Classes for Toddlers and Pre-Schoolers,
Kindergartners and School Age

Your children can hear stories from around the world, learn how to use an imagination ball or story stick, act-it-out, listen to favorite tales and take turns acting them out, giggle with our clown(s), and travel the land of make believe with our Storytellers. Classes can be adapted to various age groups.

Following is a small sampling of classes available:

DR. SUESS AND ME - Dr. Suess comes alive through this listen-observe-act-it out class.

MOTHER GOOSE TALES - Delight in hearing favorite tales from long ago in this fun, whimsical class. Tale Tellers come fully costumed!

THE BEAT GOES ON - By the use of rhythm instruments, hand clapping, musical games and songs, children are introduced to the rhythmic side of music. Toes will be tapping and voices singing all day long!

CLOWNING AROUND - Everyone gets into the act with a fun-filled visit from our most delightful clown personalities. Kids will enjoy singing, magic, stories and dancing with the Homeward Bound Theatre Company clowns.

 

COMPLETE THEATRE EXPERIENCE

A professional theatre director, technical director (and choreographer for musicals) will spend approximately 4 to 5 weeks with 20 to 30 elementary and/or middle school students, teaching them all aspects of getting ready for and being in a production, ie: set design and construction, make-up, lighting, acting and movement The experience is completed with a classic children's story production, where students are the stars. This unique experience emphasizes teamwork and is self-esteem building.

WORKSHOPS

Homeward Bound Theatre Company offers interactive workshops, in over 75 communities, designed to explore the creative and unique talent of young people. Through improvisation, mime, clowning, puppetry, magic, juggling, (and much more), each participant learns how to express themselves and to be set free to share more easily with others.

The program includes warm-up games, theatre exercises and improvisational storytelling where everyone gets into the act! Many students discover a creativity inside of them that they never knew was there. Smiles are a familiar sight at the Homeward Bound workshops.
